At a wonderful party in 18th-century Paris, poet Andrea Chénier delivers a fiery speech against Louis XVI. Five years later, the Revolution has turned into terror, changing the balance of power between Chénier, his lover Maddalena, and Gérard, the man who can destroy him...

Jonas Kaufmann sings the leading role in David McVicar's spectacular performance, under the musical direction of Antonio Pappano, with whom he has collaborated many times. This epic historical drama by Giordano is Pappano's final production as conductor of The Royal Opera.
