Pianist Roman Zavada brings his unique 360° live show to the Netherlands, performing his own music surrounded by the Northern Lights in the dome theater. A unique experience, available for only four performances.
During Résonances Boréales, Roman Zavada performs his own compositions live on piano, while 360° footage of the Canadian Northern Lights fills the dome theater. The imagery by Bruno Colpron and Dominic St-Amant brings the Northern Lights up close. Together, music and visuals transport you to the far north of Canada.
For Résonances Boréales, Zavada travelled to Prelude Lake in the Northwest Territories, Canada. There, he placed his piano in the heart of nature, at the edge of the taiga. Inspired by the northern landscape and the Northern Lights, Zavada improvised for a total of twenty hours in the forests around Prelude Lake. From these improvisations emerged nine musical pieces that reflect the atmosphere of the far north.
During the show, the music and the place where it originated come together once more: Zavada plays live, surrounded by imagery of the Canadian Northern Lights.
Roman Zavada is a pianist and composer with Québécois and Ukrainian roots. His approach to making music revolves around instinct, spontaneity, and improvisation. For his projects, he draws inspiration from the surroundings in which his piano is placed: from the far north of Canada to the forest around his home.
Zavada is also known for his Ciné-Piano performances. In these, he brings classic silent films to life with live piano improvisations that blend seamlessly with the images on screen. Zavada was nominated at the ADISQ Awards for Résonances Boréales in 2016 and Forêt pour deux pianos in 2024.
