Main-film: Mama'ku - Van Jakarta tot de Molukken
An intimate film about choreographer and dancer Cheroney Pelupessy, who travels to Indonesia with her mother for the first time to uncover a long hidden family history.
For many years, filmmaker Sven Peetoom has explored the lasting impact of the Netherlands colonial history in Indonesia. In this film, he follows choreographer and dancer Cheroney Pelupessy as she travels with her mother to Jakarta, where her mother grew up but rarely spoke about her past. Together, they confront painful memories in the hope of understanding them and growing closer. What begins as a search for a forgotten family history gradually unfolds into a moving portrait of tension, trauma, and the hope of reconnection.
Pre-film: Sudah.
This short film by director Aldo Agaatsz follows a mother and daughter with Indonesian roots, a long-held family secret, and the question of whether they are ready to make the journey to Indonesia together.
