This exhibition presents a selection from the remarkable collection of the Inuit from East Greenland.
The foundation of this collection - one of the most significant in Europe - was laid during theĀ International Polar Year 1932/33 by the later Nobel Prize winner Niko Tinbergen. At the request of the then Museum for Education (later Museon), he acquired a large number of objects from the local population. In 1965, 1975, and 1998, the museum carried out new collecting expeditions. As a result, the collection offers a clear view of cultural change in East Greenland over the past century.
The exhibition gives visitors insight into the changes that both nature and culture in the polar regions are undergoing and will continue to undergo. The Polar Hall aims to serve as a platform for scientific research institutes to present the results of their recent polar research in a museum and educational context.
