About the film

Stop Making Sense is a 1984 concert film, filmed during a series of performances by Talking Heads at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. The film was directed by Jonathan Demme.

The concert builds up in stages. It begins on an empty stage that gradually fills up as musicians join the performance one by one. Movement, lighting and music develop alongside the set.

The camera stays close to the stage and follows the musicians without fast edits. As a result, the focus remains on the music, the interactions, and the rhythm of the performance.

The film features iconic songs such as Once in a Lifetime, Burning Down the House and This Must Be the Place. David Byrne’s oversized suit has become one of the most memorable images from the film.

This version has been restored in 4K, presenting the concert with bright, sharp image quality.
